Edna, Texas – With one week to go before opening night, Texana Raceway Park staff are ready to kick off the 2008 racing season. The raceway hosted two practice sessions earlier in March that gave witness to many teams ready to compete for the big money.

The buzz across the area is focused on the healthy increases in the purse for the 2008 season. Texana Raceway Park will be paying $800 to win in modifieds and $600 to win in Limited Modifieds at each regular season event. Additionally, the Hot Stock Trucks and Bomber divisions are on tap for a purse increase. With $800 to win in modifieds and $600 to win in limited modifieds, Texana is anticipating drawing an excellent field of cars with an exciting show for the fans. “The teams pour a lot to time and money into their operations. I know, because I’ve been on that side of the fence. It is expensive enough to race and when you add the cost of fuel in the mix, we want to do what we can and offer something that makes the effort worthwhile. Naturally, we’re hoping the increase in pay will be an incentive for teams to drive the distance to Texana Raceway Park and in turn it will provide a great show for the fans. If things work as planned, increase pay draws the cars. The cars draw the fans. Then, it’s a win-win for drivers and fans.”, stated owner Bruce Tesch.

If the pre-season practice sessions are any indication, the teen mini-stock division and the Hot Stock Trucks look to be on a growth curve. The practice sessions saw more mini-stocks at the track than normally seen in regular season competition the past few years. There are also more planning to compete who will be at the track on opening night, but were unable to make it to practice. “We’ve got a great group of kids planning to compete this year. The mini-stock division provides an excellent platform for growing into the upper divisions. I’m glad to see Texana offering this opportunity to the teenagers. It is something parents and their kids can enjoy together at an age when teenagers are normally developing their own interest, not always in sync with the parents.”, said Promotions Director, Monty Chamberlain. The Hot Stock Trucks saw an initial surge in growth in 2007 and there are even more in 2008. The Trucks will also be an exciting class for the fans.

On opening night all classes are scheduled to compete. As part of the opening night ceremonies, we will have an all-driver salute to the fans on the front straight. This is always a real fan pleaser and a chance for the fans to see just who is behind the wheel of each race car.

Texana Raceway Park has recently confirmed that the USMTS will be traveling to the raceway in November for an outstanding three day event. The three day event is scheduled for November 20, 21 & 22. The event will provide for a separate payout for each night of competition, capping off with a $3,000 to win event on the 22nd. This is the series last points event before their season finale two weeks later in Houston. The USMTS will be the second multi-state touring series to grace Texana Raceway Park in 2008, preceded by the ASCS Sprint Car series on July 4th.

Drivers and fans alike will not want to miss the exciting season opener. Ticket prices remain unchanged at $10 for adults, $8 for senior citizens, and $5 for children 6-12, for regular points events. Texana raceway is located 2 miles south of Edna on SH 111. Be sure to come out for the season opener and enjoy America’s fastest sport. We’ll see you at the races!
